Firth Park Grammar School 1963 - 1964
Taken from the 'Firparnian' magazine: June 1964

" At the end of the last school year, in July 1963, we regretfully said farewell to Mr. B. Marsh and Mr. T. Pallister, both of whom left us for Ecclesfield Grammar School, Mr. N. S. Palmer, who has taken up a post at Westfield Comprehensive School, and Mr. E. Ruding, who has joined the staff of High Storrs Grammar School for Boys. At Christmas Mr. J. A. Ford and Mr. T. Higginbottom left us for Myers Grove Comprehensive School and Abbeydale Grammar School for Boys respectively, and at Easter Mr. T. Horsfield for Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School, Bromyard, Herefordshire. We wish them every happiness in their new posts.
In September 1963 we welcomed on to the staff Mr. C. M. Butler (Religious Education), Mr. S. J. Clarke (English), Mr. R. M. Plumbly (Physical Education), Mr. J. B. Smith (Mathematics) and Mr. P. Snook (Biology), and in January 1964 Mr. G. Roberts (Art) and Mr. R. W. Mayhew (Geography). We look forward to their long continuance with us, and trust that they will find their work interesting and congenial.
Mr. D. T. E. Marjoram, a former master at the School, has been elected Chairman of the Sheffield Branch of the Association of Assistant Masters in Secondary Schools. This is a great honour and a recognition of the esteem in which he is held by his colleagues. We extend to him our congratulations.
The week-by-week collection in aid of the Freedom from Hunger Campaign, together with a special collection at Christmas, amounted to the sum of £182. 16. 10d. A special donation has been made by the School towards the purchase of farming equipment for the Homa Bay Farmers' Training Centre, Kenya.
In the last issue of the Magazine we stated that, subject to a satisfactory medical report, A. J. Woodward had been accepted for Voluntary Service Overseas. Unfortunately he has been unable to take tip this very worth-while work, as he failed to pass the medical examination.
The Annual Carol Service was held at St. Cuthbert's Church, Fir Vale, on the evening of Wednesday, December 18th, when there was a large congregation of boys, parents and friends.
A musical concert, combined with a short dramatic production entitled The Seventh Dungeon, was given in the School Hall on the evenings of March 11th, 12th, and 13th. An account will be found on another page. Thanks are due to Mr. Parry, who was responsible for the musical parts of the programme, Mr. Butler and Mr. Clarke, who produced the play, and to all who assisted in any capacity whatever and so helped to make the occasion a success. We should also like to take this opportunity of thanking those boys, parents and friends who supported us by their attendance.
Our sympathy is extended to Mr. W. G. Rhodes, formerly Senior Chemistry Master at the School, and to his daughter, Miss Mary Rhodes, on the death, on April 12th, of Mrs. Rhodes, who for a time herself taught Chemistry at Firth Park. At the funeral service at St. Aidan's Church, City Road, on Wednesday, April 15th, the School was represented by the Headmaster and members of the Staff.

Mr. Wood, together with J. Mountain and A. Twelve other boys from the School volunteered their services, but they were not called upon.
