I remember playing truant one afternoon with two or three other boys. It must have been when we were in the fourth form. We all went over the gate on Horninglow Road and made our way to the bus stop half way down Stubbin Lane. We all jumped on the bus and upstairs with the conductor right behind pushing us along. Mr Hydes (English teacher) was sitting on the back seat and watched us all pass, still being pushed along by the conductor. Needless to say, we were all invited to have a chat with the Boss the next day. Some of us admitted our offence and were invited to spend extra hours in detention with Jammy Morehouse in his Latin room. One of us, Pete Swift, said had been going to a dental appointment but Mr Wilson the Head, checked with his dentist. There never was an appointment so Swifty received the cane instead of detention. Pete Swift can be seen fifth from the left, front row on the 1962 1B photo. I know quite a few of those names - I'll send them soon.
