Form 1936 |
|
" Now & Then... Former Sheffield schoolboy Frank Carless was taken back to his youth when he discovered this old photo from 1936. Frank, who now lives in Wakefield wrote to Now & Then: "Preparing to move to another house I came across this photograph and it brought back memories of my schooldays. Of course, I wondered about the friends I had at Firth Park Secondary School, pre-war. Their faces were immediately recognised - but their names? Only one returned. I am standing on the far left-hand side of the next to the back row. I have a tie and Ernest Clayton, standing next to me, does not. We were friends and lived in the same street - Edgar Street - in Pitsmoor. I wonder if Ernest is still alive? I hope so. I attended All Saints Church day school before going to Firth Park as a 'scholarship boy'. It was a fine school with a fine head teacher, Mr Simonds. The head at Firth Park was Mr Padfield. The form teacher in the photograph is Mr Over" " I of course, retired now, having been ordained in the Church of England. I am Canon Emeritus of Wakefield Cathedral. If you recognise yourself or a member of your family on the picture, please contact Frank Carless on: 01422 348379 " Taken from The Star, Saturday 28 May 2005 |
