From Harold Burton: "I am sitting at Mr Padfield's right hand. On his left is Gordon Vick who was Vice-Captain at that time (now retired as the Principal of Carlisle Technical College). Left from Gordon is Ken Bown, who after service in the RAF returned to Firth Park as a master in the early 1960s. Carrying on beyond there, we have JG Manterfield, John Good and Derrick Stenton. I'm afraid I can't remember the names of those on my right. However, third from the right on the back row (immediately above Mr Padfield) is Gilbert Reaney, who has only recently retired as a Professor of Music at the Univertsity of California, Los Angeles. He lives in Reading, not far from here, and he used to commute from here to LA! At one time he did it via Iceland, because that was the cheapest." Harold Burton
