^ Form 5C - 1946

The members of class 5C in 1946 had entered school during the early years of World War II. Their form master, Dr Frederick T Wood (whose nickname was 'Hefty') was also Head of English and, in the opinion of Derek Mirfin was a "good and noble man", perhaps the school's most academically distinguished teacher. Among those photographed here are,

Back row (left to right), Colin Flear, Roy Cheney, Alan Poppleton *, Milner, Thacker, ?, ?, Arthur Rowe, ?
Middle row, Dawson, ?, Bellamy, R Hockley, Worley, Bartrop, Ibbotson, Gow, L Tomlinson
Front row, Offord, ?, ?, D Mirfin, Dr F T Wood, ?, ?, ?, ?
On the mat, Luker, Flear

Raymond Hockley was a great musician and performer. He joined York Minster. Derek Mirfin became in later years a Mayor of Basingstoke.

* Alan Poppleton sadly passed away in August 2002. He worked as a heavy engineer with Davy United for 42 years, travelling the world.
