Staff 1948/49

" This picture of the staff must be about 1948/9, and has a nice clear image of Jimmy Gaghan (Geoghagan ?) on the front row. He was a frequent visitor particularly when Dad was ill, and always fascinated me with his mobile mouth. He had had all his teeth removed, but refused to wear false ones, claiming that he could eat steak and talk as clearly as he wanted to with his gums, which, he said, had become as hard as bone. He was one of those dreaded maths teachers who inspire fear and trembling in their pupils. We had one at High Storrs whom we called Black Ben. You could tell where he was going to teach next, because all the boys would be standing rigid and silent behind their desks waiting for his appearance, when a faint whisper of "izzear" would be heard. Happy days ? Somebody out there must have some tales to tell about Jimmy "
