Steve Atkinson (pupil 1964 - )
|
I remember starting in 1Y (presumably in 1964-5) - there were four classes W,X,Y and Z. The only other boy from my primary school (Mansel) was someone called Algar. The next year I was in 2G (G for German), alongside 2R (Russian), 2S (Spanish), and 2M (Mechanics). Then 3A, 4A doing O-levels a year early, Lower Sixth, Middle Sixth doing A-levels, then Upper Sixth doing them again to get a high enough grade to get to University. I've ended up in IT. I remember a Careers Advice lesson, perhaps 1967, where we were told to avoid "computer programming" because the industry had all the programmers it would ever need! Another old FPGS pupil would have been my late father Wilfred Atkinson. He was born in June 1927 so would have started in the 1938-39 year, I guess. I have a photo of him aged about 16 when he would probably still have been at school, and living in Shiregreen, but no photos at Firth Park. He became head photographer for the Sheffield Telegraph and Star. He died in 1973. Steve Atkinson 03.06.07 |
