Trevor Hoyland: pupil 1960 - 1964
| I am an
Old Firparnian. My name is Trevor Hoyland and I was at the school between
1960 and 1964, leaving at the age of 16 years. I worked until I was 20 for
a firm of solicitors in Sheffield and I then joined the police. I retired on
Christmas Eve 1999 and at that time I was a Detective Superintendent working
at Police HQ in Snig Hill, Sheffield. I'm married, have two relatively grown
up children and live in Hope Valley. I enjoyed my time at Firth Park
Grammar School. I remember a number of masters including HJS Wilson,
Headmaster, Mr Weatherill - deputy, Poddy Harrison, Spike Johnson, Daz
Smith, FT (Hefty) Wood, Ken Bown and Doc Beaker. Carole Bellfield was the
school secretary and her younger brother Stuart was a contemporary. Other
students I recall were Slug Nugent, Bob Turner, Tib Martin, Dave ('my dad's
got a chip shop') Ferguson, Terry Calton, Phil Rich, Keith Parkin, Keith
Cotterill and Ronald Parkin. I left with 5 'O' levels and to my absolute
shock won the school prize for English at the next Speech Day. I was able to
appear at the City Hall, where the event was held, in tight jeans,
Cuban-heeled suede boots, a corduroy Beatle jacket and with unacceptably
long hair. A sweet moment. have never been to, or for that matter been
invited to, any school reunions. Like the site. Keep up the good work. Trevor Hoyland 20.02.07 |
